Tougaloo Loses To Union

Tougaloo, MS - After a week off for spring break and a week on the road, the Tougaloo College Baseball team returned home to host the Bulldogs of Union University of Jackson, TN here today at the James C. Coleman Athletic Complex on campus. It would be the battle of the Bulldogs, but it would be #19 Union who would pull out a 4-1 win over the Bulldogs in a single 9 inning match-up.

It would be all defense for the first three innings of play, as both teams would remain scoreless through that time. But in the fourth inning, Union would score a run and continue to hold the Bulldogs scoreless and take a 1-0 lead. Neither team would not score in the fifth inning, but Union would score a run again in the sixth to go up 2-0 on the Bulldogs. In the seventh inning, Union would score 2 more runs as Dan Beck would hit a 2 run home run to put Union up 4-0. The Bulldogs would try to make a run in the bottom of the seventh, but they would only come up with 1 run to make the game 4-1. The seventh inning would be the last inning either team would score and Union would walk away with the victory.

Taking the loss for the Bulldogs was William "BJ" Lowe. Lowe pitched 6 innings and held Union to 9 hits, 4 runs, no walks, and 2 strikes. Michael Langston would take over after Lowe in the seventh and he would hold Union to 2 hits, no runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Leading the Bulldogs offensively was Derrick Singleton with 2 hits and the Bulldogs' lone run. Lanford Porter, Anthony Triplett, and Myron Gilmore all had a single apiece and Shayne Odum recorded a RBI for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs will be back in action on tomorrow, March 30th as they travel cross town to take on Jackson State University in a double-header beginning at 3:00 P.M.
