Summer Leadership Institute
June 8 - June 26, 2009
The Tougaloo College Family Life Center Youth Empowerment Summer Leadership Institute is designed to provide students with a structural environment tailored to enhance their academic performance and to develop their leadership skills. Students participate in a variety of fun-filled, exciting, and challenging activities that focus primarily on academic development, personal development, cultural/recreational enrichment, career development, and mentoring.

Activities are conducted using interactive group discussions, games, skits, cooperative learning strategies, life skills applications, sport events, visual aids, computer labs, invited guest speakers, videos, role playing, and hands-on approaches to help students apply a given strategy or concept. Weekly field trips, such as visits to museums, historical landmarks, and amusement parks are also provided.

Program enrollment criteria: Ages 8-12 and participants in the YEP after-school program at Walton Elementary during the 2008-2009 academic school years.
